A Mother’s Love…Lasts Forever       written by Brandy Lopez / Edited by Michael Arellano

Happy Mother’s Day to our Beautiful Moms! But more than mothers, you are Angels, Heroes and Blessed.  A mother’s love goes a long way, has no end and lasts forever!

But first, let me share a little about the mothers in my life – my mother and grandmother.  For those blessed to have a mother like them – you understand women with a heart of gold!

My grandmother helped raised me, so she was like a mother to me, but my mom is still my mom.  My grandmother did a beautiful job with her daughters, because my aunts are loving, caring and beautiful mothers themselves.

They all share the Word of God with their children.  They are teachers; they comfort; they encourage; they give us strength and showed us the respect we should always have for our mother.

I miss my “Abuelita.”  It’s hard for me to mention her because my heart aches and tears roll down my face as I cry and write this.  I miss you and love you, “mi ‘buelita:” “Feliz Dia De Las Madres!”

Now, about mom – when you walk into my mother’s home you become one of her children.  She welcomes you with open arms and is always ready to feed you.  Her heart is big, she does not judge, she is clean, enjoys company and loves her grandchildren.

My family always has gatherings at mom’s house, celebrating anything and everything just to be together, even though her health is waning.

Recently, at one of these gatherings, I saw her and one of her sisters dancing a Cumbia together.  This is something I had not seen in a while and I enjoyed watching them.

She loves all of her siblings the same and doesn’t favor one over another. To me, this is what makes a real mom: the ability to love without favorites.  Today, I love both my sisters the same – they are both beautiful moms and deserve “Mother of the Year” awards.

I recall my grandmother being the same as my mother is today.  I guess, in her heart, (continue reading…)

by on May.09, 2012, under Arts & Entertainment, Culture, music

Celebration!

by on Mar.31, 2012, under General Posts

It is hard to believe that Easter and Fiesta is upon us WOW! when did it sneak up on us.

I look forward to Easter, Spending it with family and friends, enjoying the bar-b-ques and listening to the laughter of the children with excitement as they approach the Easter egg hunt, and the adults preparing for a fun relaxing day listening to music and some even dancing.

What I enjoy is seeing the grownups and kids chasing each other with cascarones to crack on each others head, even us grown ups behave like kids and that’s OK.

But what is most important to me is the real reason why we celebrate Easter, so before I go and join my family I look forward to starting my day by attending church service in the morning and Thanking God for his son, who gave his life for me.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ and knowing that he is everywhere I go, and feeling his presence with the Holy Spirit is what I find why it is important  to celebrate Easter Sunday.

I share this with you because I find it so important that you share it with your loved ones especially the younger generation who may not know the meaning of Easter Sunday.

If you don’t make it to Sunday church gather your family where ever you may be spending your beautiful sunday and hold hands and together give thanks to Jesus Christ for giving you what you have and another day here on earth to be able to enjoy your day.

The Blessings that he showers upon you are moments of celebration and this is how the Fun begins, it begins with him first.

Some of us may feel we have nothing to celebrate, we may have lost a loved one or don’t have anyone in our life, but rejoice is in your soul and you are here on earth breathing the air that he has provided you with.

We pray for those who have left us to be with our heavenly Father, they now know the true meaning of Easter and are celebrating it in the Heavens.

I am sure that those of us who may have given up something for Lent can hardly wait to get back what you have given up those 40 days.

Just be wise and don’t abuse it whatever it may be enjoy your Sunday with your Family and have Fun!

Fiesta is just around the corner, as I prepare for Royal appearances I also look forward to meeting wonderful people and enjoying the music of different bands and Mariachis, the Aroma of the different foods, some of the costumes, and Fiesta hats that people decorate. Not to mention the Parades, and Carnival. I am so proud to live in a city that is filled with excitement and a city that offers and shares the beauty of our Culture. Although some of us may say we are a beat of a different drum in reality we are all unique and the same in one form or another.

One thing I want to stress is Parents please look after your children and don’t lose sight of where they are.

To all of us adults please be responsible and stay out of trouble enjoy Fiesta! and remember to look after  each other and if you can not drive home “Please don’t do it”.

I want you to celebrate everyday giving thanks to our Father for your freedom and another day here on Earth.

So this Easter and Fiesta Enjoy the cracking of the Cascarones, and all the Fiesta Festivities going on around you spend it with your loved ones and friends.

In closing I want to say Goodbye and Rejoice with the Lord to our Dear Friend Max Ortiz who has left to celebrate eternal life with our Father Jesus Christ.

Max I will miss you dearly, but will always look up to you and the loving man you were to your beautiful wife Lupe, and all those who came to know you. We were Blessed to have you in our lives and my tears of sadness will fill like the river and turn to joy everytime I look up into the sky and see your smile and saying “Take Your Time I have All Day”

Three Trees – worth the read!

by on Mar.11, 2012, under Christian, Faith, Gratitude, Spiritual

Once there were three trees on a hill in the woods. They were discussing their hopes and dreams when the first tree said, ‘Someday I hope to be a treasure chest. I could be filled with gold, silver and precious gems. I could be decorated with intricate carving and everyone would see the beauty.’

Then the second tree said, ‘Someday I will be a mighty ship. I will take Kings and queens across the waters and sail to the corners of the world. Everyone will feel safe in me because of the strength of my hull.’

Finally the third tree said, ‘I want to grow to be the tallest and straightest Tree in the forest. People will see me on top of the hill and look up to my branches, and think of the heavens and God and how close to them I am reaching. I will be the greatest tree of all time and people will always remember me.’

After a few years of praying that their dreams would come true, a group of woodsmen came upon the trees. When one came to the first tree he said, ‘This looks like a strong tree, I think I should be able to sell the wood to a carpenter, ‘and he began cutting it down. The tree was happy, because he knew that the carpenter would make him into a treasure chest.

At the second tree the woodsman said, ‘This looks like a strong tree. I should be able to sell it to the shipyard.’ The second tree was happy Because he knew he was on his way to becoming a mighty ship.

When the woodsmen came upon the third tree, the tree was frightened because he knew that if they cut him down his dreams would not come true. One of the woodsmen said, ‘I don’t need anything special from my tree, I’ll take this one,’ and he cut it down.

 When the first tree arrived at the carpenters, he was made into a feed box for animals. He was then placed in a barn and filled with hay. This was not at all what he had prayed for.

The second tree was cut and made into a small fishing boat. His dreams of being a mighty ship and carrying kings had come to an end.

The third tree was cut into large pieces, and left alone in the dark.

The years went by, and the trees forgot about their dreams.

Then one day, a man and woman came to the barn. She gave birth and they placed the baby in the hay in the feed box that was made from the first tree. The man wished that he could have made a crib for the baby, but this manger would have to do. The tree could feel the importance of this event and knew that it had held the greatest treasure of all time.

Years later, a group of men got in the fishing boat made from the second tree. One of them was tired and went to sleep. While they were out on the water, a great storm arose and the tree didn’t think it was strong enough to keep the men safe. The men woke the sleeping man, and He stood and said ‘Peace’ and the storm stopped. At this time, the tree knew that it had carried the King of Kings in its boat.

Finally, someone came and got the third tree. It was carried through the streets as the people mocked the man who was carrying it. When they came to a stop, the man was nailed to the tree and raised in the air to die at the top of a hill. When Sunday came, the tree came to realize that it was strong enough to stand at the top of the hill and be as close to God as was possible,

because Jesus had been crucified on it.

The moral of this story is that when things don’t seem to be going your way, always know that God has a plan for you. If you place your trust in Him, God will give you great gifts.

Each of the trees got what they wanted, just not in the way they had imagined.

We don’t always know what God’s plans are for us. We just know that His Ways are not our ways, but His ways are always best.

May your day be blessed. And until we meet again, may God cradle you in the palm of His hand.

If they Gossip to you – they will Gossip about you! – Old Spanish proverb

Recently we received a phone call from a very concerned person who was just fed-up  by the Gossip and envy that circles around our community.

To hear that we happen to be the topic of this mess is sad, I have not been able to understand why it is that people who want to be a part of the community and portray themselves as business people can be so fake.

The way I see it is if you are true to your heart and yourself then be a good steward to God and others, there is no need for You to talk about others and to find ways to ruin ones reputation.

All you are doing in the long run is hurting yourself, your partners, you may not know who you may be gossiping too (continue reading…)

Sid’s Dish – What I learned from the Super Bowl!

by on Feb.09, 2012, under Events, General Posts, Sports

Super Bowl XLVI (46) has come and gone! The New york Giants are World champs once again.  The game itself is the most watched event in the world – with larger audiences than the World Cup! Giants vs Patriots – who did you like? What did you learn? Let me dish it out!

Super models are not super spokesmen – that is for sure! Giselle should have been quiet! The players are pros and she is a pro but she should have been less vocal. What do you think?

Games are games and fun is fun – but the Bowl is the game of all games – and guess what? I have watched almost every Super bowl since I was 5 years old – Dallas Cowboys vs Baltimore Colts – with the exception of a couple. I almost never miss it  as I am as old as the Super Bowl itself.  It is the only Championship game that I look forward to.  I am a football fan first – then I have my teams.  None of my teams made the Super Bowl this year!

I was hoping for a Harbaugh Bowl myself – especially since the Cowboys blew their chances this season…  And since none of my yearlong picks came to fruition – I settled for what was supposed to be a great game.  I was disappointed only because it didn’t play out the way it could have – but i did learn some things along the way and i want to pass them along here.  This is what I learned:

  1. The super bowl is a good game but can still be boring super  – because, it can be boring; but here is the rest; see the end -
  2. You can be down – but don’t count yourself out – Look at the Giants;
  3. Do not underestimate your age – Tom Coughlin is the oldest coach to win the Super Bowl;
  4. Analysts and naysayers are only guessing – all the analysis and guessing are speculation – they do not determine the outcome;
  5. Even the best in the world can make mistakes – Tom Brady, one of the best to play the game, made a mistake on his first play from scrimmage;
  6. You have to make plays – especially when it counts;
  7. Mistakes don’t cost you the game – even with the early mistake – the Patriots had a chance;
  8. Mistakes will cost you the game – you have to make a play, especially when it counts – Hernandez and Welker dropped critical passes late in the game;
  9. It is just a game – just like the game of life,
  10. Sloppy is still compelling – good game, boring and sloppy, but went down to the wire;
  11. Losing, like failure, is an event – losing and failing are events, and does not define who you are:
  12. If you do your best – you still might come up short;
  13. You gotta make plays – you may make the difference in the outcome;
  14. It still “ain’t nothing but a football game” – we place way too much emphasis on the Super Bowl – it is just a game;
  15. Games matter – it pays too take your fun serious – ask the Patriots;
  16. Winning counts – ask the Giants;
  17. If you are a supermodel, it is best to be seen and not  heard – much like children – it is best to be seen and not heard!;
  18. The Super Bowl is the greatest game to watch - According to the Nielsen Company, more than 110 million people watched Super Bowl XLVI – http://w.po.st/share/entry/redir?publisherKey=Inquisitr.com-607&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.inquisitr.com%2F191129%2Fsuper-bowl-xlvi-was-the-most-watched-show-in-us-history%2F&title=Super%20Bowl%20XLVI%20The%20Most%20Watched%20Show%20in%20US%20History&sharer=copypaste
  19. if you have to rely on a prayer -it will be answered – just not the way you want – see hail mary pass;
  20. There are more important things in life – ask Payton;
  21. The game is a blast – watch it and see’
  22. You can bond with family – ask my 10 year old daughter – our first together!

The game is great – the Super Bowl is greater and there is lots to learn – but you must learn to appreciate the fact that it is just a game and that life is just a game also.

Have fun Play hard and dammit – catch the friggin ball! or risk losin it all!

Be blessed and dish it out yourself – Sid
